When life gives you lemons... Drink them!

Our bodies are supposed to work like well oiled machines. They're designed to function in a specific way and it is our job to feed it what it needs in order to do that. I listened to an episode of the podcast "The Model Health Show" a few weeks ago and I suddenly realised that we, as a society, have become total accepting of digestive disorders. I have been one of those accepting people for so many years.
Enter the humble lemon.

For as long as I can remember, I had heartburn. When I woke up, when I went to sleep, after I ate, when I got stressed... All the freaking time. I was so embarrassed by it, but I knew that my mother had the same problem so I put it down to genetics and just dealt with it.
Eventually it becasome so chronic that I went to see my GP, who as expected prescribed me some pills that he said should work - they didn't. I tried cutting out wheat, dairy, sugar... nothing worked.
Earlier this year I took part in a 5 day "Clean Eating" challenge that a friend of mine was running. One of the recommendations is that every morning, first thing, you squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water and drink it. I followed the plan for the 5 days, and miraculously my heartburn disappeared. I figured it had to be the lemons, so I looked into it.
Lemons are so amazing because despite the acidity, they become alkiline in our bodies and balance our pH levels and aids digestions. This is only one of so many benefits. So many of my friends have been commenting on the healthy look of my skin. As well as the Maximum Vibrance shake that I drink every day, I also put this down to lemons.
